LORE OF CREATIVITY: ANATOMY SERIES

These illustrations use uncanny combinations of human organs, animal parts and creative tools to create fictional body systems. These structures represent the creative process where every element has a metaphoric function.

This project challenges the printed image through the juxtaposition of illustration, traditional printmaking and digital imaging techniques and conventions. It seeks to challenge the audience’s trust in the printed image and its function as a system of representation in the contemporary world. The faux scientific representation of these absurd, fictional body structures question the roots of creativity as well as the binary of artifice and authenticity both visually and conceptually.

Lore of Creativity: Cosmology

For centuries humans have been gazing at the night sky looking for answers to the workings of the universe. Elaborate systems based on celestial observations were used not only as a means to understand the unknown but also as an important navigational tool. Just as traditional celestial maps were created to try to explain the workings of the universe (whether through myth, science or a combination of both), my maps attempt to explain the external workings of creativity that act on the self.

A Glossary book was written and designed to provide additional information on the stories, content and meaning behind the print series.

In addition to the gallery pieces, the work was also featured on the Museum's signage, t- shirts and stickers (stickers in collaboration with fellow Artist of Hawaii 2015 artist, Maile Yawata.
